Each holiday season, Bycor gifts a custom-labelled local beer to their clients. Each year's theme is independent and the tone is usually playful. For the 2020 edition and my 9th year designing the label, I pitched a new concept that positions the label in line with their branding as a construction expert with an established history of creating (and re-creating) San Diego's structures.
The Landmark Building Series beer label henceforth will feature a historic building from Bycor's renovation portfolio accompanied by an overview of the building's history. The first edition of the label series features the building at 402 Market Street in San Diego's Gaslamp District. Also known as the Broker's Building, the building's original tenants were wholesale grocers, Klauber & Wangenheim Co.
I researched the fascinating (and winding!) history of this building to inform the design and create suggested copy for the back panel. The client was thrilled with the result!
Inspiration for the label design was gathered from packaged goods sold by the building's original tenants Klauber & Wangenheim and other similar era (early 1900s) pieces.
